Mr. Joe Leary, CEO of the Irish American Partnership in Boston recently met teachers, staff and the Chairman of the Board of Management of Derryclough N.S.. On a lovely sunny day at the end of August he visited the school, had a tour of the school and grounds and over a cup of tea discussed the Education system, the school and the work of the Partnership.
In February 2013, to the amazement and delight of everyone in Derryclough N.S., the Irish American Partnership in Boston donated $2000 to the school and Mr Leary has kept in touch with us in the eighteen months since then.
At the time of Mr. Leary’s visit, the school resembled a building site as the toilets were being upgraded as part of the Summer Works Scheme and there were also new floors being laid in the classrooms. On his tour of the school and grounds, he saw the weather station which was bought with part of his donation, as well as the basket swing, but because of the work taking place he was unable to see the new libraries in both classrooms and the Science equipment which has been added to the school’s resources as a result of his generosity.
Following Joe Leary’s return to Boston, the school community was again thrilled and excited to receive a further $2000 towards the development of the school, with special emphasis on Libraries and Science.
The children have been busy writing Thank You letters, although it is difficult to express just how much this support and interest means to us. During his visit, Joe Leary was impressed with the tranquil, picturesque setting of the school and grounds and with the vibrancy and enthusiasm he has seen in the children and staff on his recent visit and in the contact he has had over the last eighteen months.
