We did Modern Dance for the first time this year under the expert guidance of Eilis Hodnett and it proved to be very popular and such fun with everyone. The photos tell the story! This year, we took part in the Scríobhleabhar project for the first time in many years. Children wrote scéalta on many topics.
Scríobh na páistí scéalta mar gheall ar An Trá, Mé Féin, Mo Theach, Tine Mór, Gúna, Rudaí Glasa, Ag imirt sacair. There was a very enjoyable afternoon in the Parkway when the books were on display and entertainment was provided with great audience participation!! This is definitely something we would do again. World Book Day took place on Thursday March 2nd. This was great fun with some very well researched costumes on show. At Break we even had the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas playing soccer with Harry Potter! There were lots of literacy activities during the day. It was lovely to see the older children reading favourite stories to the younger people. Shoeboxes went off before Christmas; this is a lovely way for children to think of others who are not so fortunate. Lisa, Laura, Eli, Aidan and Shane with some of the shoeboxes.
We had a very enjoyable Christmas Concert in the Senior Room on Tuesday, December 20th. This year we decided to combine both rooms for both plays, so we had children from the Junior and Senior Classes doing the Nativity and a Panto called Happily Never After. There was a great contrast between the two; the Nativity was very gentle and simple, showing the true meaning of Christmas. The Panto was hilarious, with all the well-known Panto characters making an appearance. There was a reversal of roles as Eli played one of the ugly sisters, Louie played the wicked stepmother and the Prince was played by Nikki. There were goodies and baddies aplenty and we were all kept on our toes as costume changes had to take place in a twinkling. Then it was down to the Junior Room for tea, cakes and lots of chat, over for another year!
