After a cold morning, the sun very obligingly shone and it turned out a glorious afternoon for our Sports Day. We missed the usual gathering of parents, families and past pupils but still enjoyed an active and fun-filled day. Here are some photos to tell some of the story. Drinagh Community Preschool, who share our premises, had a Sports Day and Graduation Day and celebrated with a visit from an Ice-cream van. They were very kind to allow us visit the van too and we enjoyed yummy ice-cream cones.
'If you go down to the woods today.... ' The children found lots of fairy houses and had a very enjoyable walk in Dromillihy Woods in Cononagh. On June 17th we had a feedback Zoom meeting with our Sciene Blast Judge, Ciara. She was very impressed with our Science Project, the effort, the experiments, the knowledge shown by the children and their presentation of the work done. Here they are with the trophy presented for our paper-making project. A big Thank You is due to Mrs Murphy who led the project and who put such a lot of effort into making it possible for the children to take part.
On our next little trip out we visited a waterfall in Drominidy, the next townland to Derryclough - it is a really beautiful spot. We also fitted in a Nature Walk, spotting lots of flowers such as fuchsia, popped foxgloves, (also known as fairy fingers or fairy thimbles), and played soldiers. The adults among us were walking down Memory Lane with these simple pleasures! On June 11th we had a visit from Scruffy's Pet Shop, Dunmanway and it was very interesting. Look at these! This year instead of a traditional School Tour we decided to take some shorter excursions to explore our locality and we began with a scenic walk by the river in Castledonovan. The children completed a treasure hunt and then had such fun skimming stones across the water. After the walk we enjoyed a trip to the playground and finished up with an ice-cream from Centra. A lovely afternoon! On May 31st we planted our new raised vegetable beds - now we must water and weed and hopefully wait for our veg to grow.
