Our secretary of 15 years, Pat, has sadly moved away, we will miss her calm sensible (yet meticulously organised) approach. We had a nice send off, and wish her the very best in her new home.
Congratulations to all the students (and their parents) who missed no (or very few) days this year. Well Done!
We are very sad to say goodbye to our Learning Support and Resource Teaching team, who are all being recalled to their base schools under the New Model of SET provision. We had several tearful farewells, and we hope they will do well under the new arrangements. They are of course welcome (and expected) to call in for a chat whenever they are passing. We will be welcoming a new full-time teacher based with us, Ms O' Sullivan, starting in September.
Here is the NCSE press release about this New Allocation Model Check out all the action from Derryclough School Sports Day 2017! The weather was great (we've been really lucky this year!) and everyone had lots of fun. As well as the 'normal' races, we also had a few fun events, like the Fancy Dress Race, The Balloon Race, Water Carrying, Javelin (with straws and marla), Target kicks, Target throws, and so on. We want to thank all the former students who came to give us a hand, bravely manning the stations!
Our school tour this year was to Fota Wildlife Park. The weather was fantastic, and we had a guided tour around the park, where we got to see Asian Lions, Sumatran Tigers and went into the Tropical house, as well as enjoying the monkeys, giraffes, ostriches (you should see an ostrich egg!). We had a wonderful day, which we topped off with a trip to McDonalds on the way home.
